A wonderful week (week 28)
It’s been a heck of a week, and in a good way! My good friend, N, came to visit me from Jyväskylä, to help me pack my home in preparation for the renovations that are going to be done. We had a fabulous time, did a lot of stuff and got a lot done. Friday, we decided to go cause chaos in the world, since she was going home that afternoon. We hit up the kirppis (thrift) stores, finding little bargains here and there. At one, met a very interesting American from North Dakota, who has been here for 20 years! He’s got some interesting irons in the fire, so we might see if we can do some stuff together. Then we headed out for lunch.
You’ll soon learn that I love street food. If it comes from a trailer, it has to be good. We’d seen a trailer when we pulled in, but hadn’t taken a close look, other than to say we might check it out for lunch. So we did. Would you believe it said “Texas Style Barbeque” on the tent?! So I bellied up to the counter and said, “We’ll see about that!”. As a 5th gen Texan, I think I have the bonafides to make a judgement on some BBQ. And I’ll be damned if JJ didn’t absolutely knock the taste right out of the park! His trailer was there on a “tour” and he was only in Oulu for the day. He does have a restaurant, in Salo, which is hell and gone from me, as it’s near Turku and closer to Helsinki than Oulu, by far.
Definitely check it out, though, if you ever have the chance. That’s JJ’s BBQ in Salo, or coming to a shopping center near you this summer! Honestly, it was so good, I was already through it and didn’t want to set it down to take photos, so you’ll just have to go by what’s on his website. Lord have mercy, it was fantastic!
